PAROEMIA DENOTING “HAPPINESS” IN LINGUISTIC VIEW OF GERMAN NATION

Abstract

The article examines key notions of modern linguistics: national language picture of the world, national-cultural specificity of linguistic units and proverbs, which define the notion “happiness” in the language picture of the German ethnicity. The national language picture is considered the body of knowledge about the world represented by the means of verbalization of certain culturally significant data. These data include knowledge and experience which are preserved and pass from one generation to another with the use of a verbal code. Sayings and proverbs as the specific category of figurative units of the modern German paremiological fund perform the definite role in maintaining and reflecting spiritual and intellectual culture of the ethnicity. Each person interprets such value categories as fate, family, love and happiness. Paroemias, which denote human happiness, have become the object of our linguistic research. This article notes that the concept of “happiness” denotes a general positive assessment of a person’s life: this is a feeling of emotional uplift, a positive understanding of one’s inner state. The constituent components of the paroemias, which denote “happiness,” are love, high spirits, the presence of people on whom you can rely, an inner sense of harmony and mental balance. The material of the research suggests that positive emotions exist along with negative ones, and this is reflected in the under studied. Paroemias, which designate “happiness,” are characterized by clearly expressed national-cultural specificity, which makes these units expressive, emotionally colored, and having a high degree of use in modern German. These paroemias very figuratively and vividly reflect all aspects of human life and the consciousness of the German ethnos, its understanding and perception of the phenomenon “happiness” as well as the ways of its comprehension and achievement.
