PHYTO-CHEMICAL PROFILE OF ELA (Elettaria cardamomum)–A REVIEW

Abstract
Cardamomone of the high priced and exotic species in the world .It is used as flavouring agent for most culinary and confectionary preparation. Apart from its commercial use it is having extensive medicinal use. Seeds are useful in dyspepsia, anorexia, asthma, bronchitis, dysuria, renal and vesicular calculi etc. because of its commercial and medicinal utility, Ela is being adulterated /substituted with various other drugs in market. So genuineness of drug need to be assessed before use as the poor quality of the drug leads to the decrease in therapeutic efficacy .Some of the techniques like macroscopic and microscopic identification, and TLC of Ela is discussed in present review.
