POLISH CULTURALLY MARKED LEXICON IN MODERN POLISH-RUSSIAN LEXICOGRAPHY
Journal Title: Слов’янський збірник - Year 2016, Vol 0, Issue 20
Abstract
The aim of the research was to analyze ways of the lexicographical representation of the culture specific information in the Polish lexicon, which represents the certain fragments of the Polish linguistic picture of the world. Particular emphasis was drawn to the conceptual areas reflected in the words and phrases, their specificity, to the specifics of mapping the elements of culture containing cognitive and value priorities of Polish people. The issues relating to how the vocabulary of each language is influenced by the culture of its speakers, how the cultural specificity is reflected in the lexical systems of the different languages, in the vocabulary of the non-native language belong to unresolved and controversial ones in modern linguistics. The relevance of linguistic and cultural approach to the analysis of the investigated lexical array is proved by the background knowledge not coinciding between the two cultures. This fact can become a barrier to an adequate understanding in the process of mastering the communicative competence, and in some cases it causes an incorrect perception (a cultural and linguistic shock) of the other Slavic culture and its linguistic elements. The study of the Polish words with the cultural component in their semantics, presented in the modern Polish-Russian dictionaries, indicates that the national culture of the Poles is performed both explicitly and implicitly to some extent. Naming the objects, concepts, phenomena of the world in the considered vocabulary array is systemic. It represents the most important sphere in the culture of the Polish society (man as public and living creature). The culture specific vocabulary is still not fully presented in Polish linguistic dictionaries, and in the existing lexicographical sources there are no fixed names denoting the concepts important for the Polish culture (orzeł biały, mazurek Dąbrowskiego, demokracja szlachecka, Konstytucja 3 Maja, liberum veto, and others), or their interpretation is incomplete or out of date. Therefore, the results of the research can be useful not only in teaching Polish as a foreign language for the Russian audience, but also in compiling a linguistic dictionary, with the Polish culture specific lexicon.
