TRADITIONS OF ODESSA SLAVONIC STUDIES SCHOOL IN THE WORKS OF PROFESSOR M. M. KOPYLENKO PUBLISHED IN „BYZANTINE ANNALS” („VIZANTIYSKY VREMENNIK”)

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to attempt to identify the features that reflect the methodological traditions of Slavonic studies in Odessa historical-philological school. The research manner of Kazakhstan scientist-linguist Professor Moisey Mikhailovich Kopylenko was used. The material of the study is 6 articles by M. Kopylenko, published at different times (from 1957 to 1973) in the „Byzantine Annals”. As a result of the conducted analysis, scientific priorities of the scientist have been identified. His researches are closely linked to the research areas of the scientists of Odessa historical-philological school of the XIX–XX cc.: Academician V. M. Istrin, Academician I. V. Jagič, Professors M. V. Beliaev, N. I. Bukatevich, B. V. Warnecke, D. S. Ishchenko, P. O. Potapov, associate professor A. V. Rystenko and some others. Conclusions: Professor M. M. Kopylenko develops achievements of Odessa historical-philological school by his scientific activity. There are achievements in the area of the historical Greek-Slavic translation studies, historical syntax and phraseology of the Russian language, as well as the Byzantine-Slavic intercultural communication. The development of these fundamental scientific fields occurred during the scientific and pedagogical activities of Professor M. M. Kopylenko in Odessa and in Kazakhstan.
