Positive Effects of Antenatal Yoga on Pregnancy Outcomes

Abstract
Yoga therapy is a comprehensive system of mind body relaxation technique to relieve stress. Stress is being implicated as an important etiological factor for many diseases including pregnancy complications. Database were searched using the terms yoga and pregnancy. The findings of various studies indicated that yoga intervention resulted in stress reduction, lower incidence of pregnancy complications and lower level of pain and better labour outcomes. A recent study conducted at a tertiary hospital in Delhi revealed marked reduction in stress measured by subjective and objective measures. Yoga was seen to be a safe and effective non pharmacological intervention during pregnancy.
