POTENTIAL EFFECT OF SCHOOL SOCIAL WORK ON EARLY SCHOOL LEAVING

Abstract
Along with European Union 2020 strategies, this paper aims to provide a new framework on reducing early school leaving, which is a leading educational problem; on supplying information about potential effect of school social work field, of which importance is disregarded among preventive measures, and which would contribute to resolving the problem; on discussing the potential effect of this approach on early school leaving; on tackling early school leaving through ecological approach. Such an approach is claimed to have bidimensional contribution: [1] encouragement of empowering and assisting practice of school social workers, [2] resolving the issue by increasing student compliance within the components of family-school-community. Education is undoubtedly among leading global subjects effecting well-being and direction of children and young people’s future life. With regard to early school leaving, is one of the most serious problems challenging education. There are so many discussion and approach on decreasing early school leaving, tackling the issue and providing new solutions. Moreover, governments assumed national responsibility to decrease the number of early school leavers. However, despite efforts, there is still a huge gap between the numbers of students who registered to school and who graduated from school. In literature, there are limitless number of studies on tackling early school leaving, however, there is quite few studies in terms of school social work. Almost no study has been carried out through this approach with regards to studies based in Turkey.
