Poverty and social exlusion of children – Poland in comparison with the European Union States
Journal Title: Educational Psychology - Year 2015, Vol 49, Issue 7
Abstract
The Author is an economist who performs analyses of the impact the economic crisis has on the living conditions and quality of life of children in highly developed countries. The article presents the latest statistics on child poverty and social exclusion in the European Union countries. The Author uses the data that has been collected and processed with the use of a uniform methodology developed by Eurostat. The purpose of the analyses presented is to verify the statement – which is frequently made especially in the media – that: Poland stands out against the EU countries in terms of the number of children who live in poverty and in terms of insufficient support they are provided with by the state. A more penetrating look at the international statistics does not fully confirm the opinion concerning the Poland's position as far as the scale of poverty is concerned, while the state support for children living in poverty is indeed much worse in Poland than in most EU countries.
