Abstract

Siddha Chikitsa originated in Tamil Nadu and although different from Arya Sampradayoktha Ayurved it has many similarities between its origin and origin of Rasashastra. The Lord of both these branches is Lord Shiva. Maharshi Agasthya however flourished Siddha Paddathi and wrote its texts. In this research we will study Chandamarutam a Siddha drug which also contains ingredients which are already known in Rasashastra. Chandamarutam contains Hingul, Gandhak, Sauweer and Raskarpur. Hingul and Gandhak were purified and Sauweer and Raskarpur both kupipakwa kalpana of Mercury were prepared. All the ingredients were then tirturated together in a desired ratio. Finally Malhar was prepared adding Sikta Tail. Analysis of the raw material aswell the final product was conducted. The mercury content of both Raskarpur and Sauweer seemed less as compared to the standard. Chloride percentage was standard. The peroxide level, Acid value and other tests of Chandamarutam malhar were within standard limits. This drug has been indicated in Vicharchika in Chikitsa Pradeep to be applied as lepa using cow’s milk. In the current study we have prepared its malhar to enhance ease in its usage. Only analytical study has been conducted in this study, clinical trial of this malhar would be the next step of the current study.
