Preparation and Tribological Properties of Ni Based Wear Resistant Coating by Plasma Cladding

Abstract
The Ni based wear-resistant coating was prepared by plasma cladding technology on the surface of 20 steel by using the commercial WF260 alloy powders. The friction and wear behavior of the coating under dry friction condition at room temperature were investigated by the MM-200 tribo-tester. The microstructure and phase composition of the coating were observed by scanning electron microscope (SEM), energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS) and X-ray diffractometer (XRD) . The results indicate that the coating exhibites a lamellar structure and has a good metallurgically bond with the matrix. Some pores exist on the surface of the coating and a large amount of the dendrites are also found in the coating. The coating mainly consists of γ- (Ni, Fe), (Fe, Cr, Ni) mCn, Cr2Ni3, BPO4 and Fe5C2 phases. The wear rate of the 20 steel and the coating are 1.90 mm3/min and 0.26 mm3/min respectively. The wear resistance of the 20 steel is greatly improved by the coating. The main wear mechanisms of the coating are abrasive wear and oxidation wear, and the main strengthening mechanisms are dispersion strengthening and solution strengthening.
