Abstract
The article analyzes the global problem of the increasing life expectancy and its impact on the development of postgraduate education. This problem is especially relevant for Ukraine since she is among the countries whose most significant population group is over 65. This, of course, poses new challenges for higher education. The number of adults who want to get a new education, update the existing knowledge or gain opportunities for self-development will grow significantly in the short term. This situation, coupled with the development of technologies, will stimulate the growth of demand for lifelong learning. This is a very tough challenge for universities as well as the need to compete with other educational structures. The prospects for the development of universities largely depend on the successful solution of the set tasks.
