Redesign of Robotic Arm by the Application of Reverse Engineering and Rapid Prototyping

Journal Title: Machine Design - Year 2017, Vol 9, Issue 3

Abstract

Application of reverse engineering (RE) methodology has been used for many years and has found success in different applications connected to product (re)design. The main goal of the presented study was to redesign the robotic arm assembly. For that purposes, RE approach was selected as appropriate. The redesign was needed in order to obtain lighter structure that is easier to manufacture, while maintaining structural properties of the robotic arm. For the purposes of structural confirmation of redesigned parts, finite element method (FEM) was used. After confirming their structural properties, parts were manufactured with rapid prototyping (RP) technology and successfully assembled and tested afterwards.
