Regeneracja ichtiofauny Bzury i Neru po ograniczeniu dopływu zanieczyszczeń przemysłowych

Abstract

The fish fauna of the two biggest rivers (Ner and Bzura) flowing out from the Łódź Municipal Area (ŁMA) was the subject of this study. For several decades, these two rivers had been transporting severe domestic and industrial sewage from the ŁMA (till 1989), which resulted in their long sections being fishless. Fish sampling along the course of the Bzura River was carried out in 17 sites in 1999. Fish had by then already reappeared along its whole course (up to 10 species at some sites); close to its mouth we found even lithophil species, such as chub and dace. A subsequent research, conducted in 2009 and 2011, showed that the fish fauna of the Bzura River continued to improve. Other lithophils, such as spirlin, nase, barbel, and threatened species, such as golden loach, and white gudgeon, appeared also then. The river became exploited by anglers along its almost whole course. The regeneration of fish fauna in the Ner River was not proportional to the time that elapsed. The highest species number since the beginning of research at the sampled sites was recorded in 2002, however in 2004–2005 it again decreased and the process was related to toxic floods, which washed out pollutants from the bottom due to their faster river flow. In 2008 and 2010 species number started to increase again, but we then found chub among lithophils, although only at one, downstream site.
