Research advances on epigenetic mechanism of anxiety disorders and related drug treatment
Journal Title: Journal of Air Force Medical University - Year 2023, Vol 44, Issue 4
Abstract
Anxiety disorders are common mental disorders characterized by excessive fear and anxiety and accompanied by abnormal gene regulation and synaptic dysfunction. The pathogenesis is complex. A large number of studies have confirmed that permanent changes of gene expression caused by epigenetic changes in related brain regions are important mechanisms for the occurrence of anxiety disorders. This paper reviews the research advances on epigenetic mechanisms including the roles of DNA methylation, histone modification and microRNA regulation in anxiety disorders, and discusses the anxiolytic effect and potential mechanism of histone deacetylase inhibitor in preclinical and clinical trials, so as to provide new ideas and directions for the study of epigenetic drug treatment of anxiety disorders.
