RETROSPECTIVE ANALYSIS OF THE DEVELOPMENT OF CREDIT SYSTEMS FOR FOREIGN LANGUAGE COMMUNICATION AT AMERICAN TECHNICAL UNIVERSITIES

Abstract

The article establishes that the current state of the credit system for teaching foreign language communication for students of technical universities in the United States is the result of a historical search for effective forms of measuring the qualitative and quantitative parameters of a training unit for a credit hour. The history of the development of the US credit system as a whole is described and its direct connection with the creation and operation of American universities is proved. It is determined that foreign languages have been learnt as basic subject but every student of technical university had a chance to elect language individually. It is described the goals, content, forms and methods of the credit system of teaching foreign language communication in technical universities in the USA. The history of the development of the American credit hour as a whole is described in terms of the teaching of foreign language students from technical universities. In the course of a retrospective analysis, it was revealed that the creation of the foundations of the US credit system was preceded by a process of liberalization of university education, which allowed disciplines (including a foreign language) to measure in credits and evaluate in points, and a fixed amount of points allowed the student to receive a higher education diploma. The necessity of developing tests for determining the level of knowledge, abilities and skills of foreign language communication is considered. It has been proved that learning foreign language communication at US technical universities is associated with the socio-economic and political order of American society.
