Rotor fault compensation and detection in the sensorless induction motor drive

Journal Title: Power Electronics and Drives - Year 2017, Vol 1, Issue 1

Abstract

Background The sensorless induction motor drive systems require the rotor speed estimation. When the rotor of induction motor is broken the rotor resistance value is different than the nominal value. Because, all of the speed estimation techniques are more or less sensitive to the motor parameter changes, the rotor speed can be calculated with some steady state error during this faulted conditions. From this reason the speed estimator should be extended to the rotor resistance estimator. Material and methods The rotor speed are reconstructed by MRASCC estimator. In the paper simulation results are presented. Drive is tested for different conditions. Simulation tests are performed in the Direct Field Oriented Control (DFOC) structure realized in MATLAB/Simulink software. Results The influence of the rotor fault to the properties of the sensorless induction motor drive system, with and without additional rotor resistance estimator, are presented. Conclusions In the sensorless DFOC drive system with MRASCC estimator and additional resistance estimator it is possible to compensate a steady state error, but only in limited range of the rotor fault. However, it is important the estimated rotor resistance can be used as an additional parameter for system drive diagnostics to detect a rotor fault.
