"ROUND TABLE" AS ONE OF THE ACTIVE METHODS FOR FOREIGN LANGUAGE TEACHING OF MEDICAL STUDENTS

Abstract
The article traces the history of the emergence of the "round table" concept, as well as explores the contemporary meaning of this term. It is noted that for the participation of students in language activities at classes of this type it is necessary to create certain conditions, such as: the possibility of free expression of their thoughts; each participant in group communication should remain in the focus of othersʼ attention; even contradictory, "wrong" judgments should be encouraged; communication participants should feel safe from criticism; the linguistic material must correspond to the linguistic and mental capabilities of students, etc. It is stated that special attention should be given to communication skills of medical students during the "round table" at English classes in a higher educational institution, which are divided into the following blocks: the requirements for learning to speak; dialogic language; monologue language. Some specific features of the “round table” method are defined: personification of information (it is necessary to treat each point with particular attention, choosing the best, comparing them with the opinions of other participants); polyphonic of the class in the form of a round table (during the business noise in the classroom the leader must note the main thing, give everyone the opportunity to express their thoughts, to support this background, because this is a very feature of the round table). The article also describes the rules for a round table, namely: to provide the optimal number of participants; to establish the rules of speeches; to ensure the appropriate design of the audience. It is noted that in the organization and holding of a round table, usually, there are three stages: preparatory, discussion and final (post-discussion). The preparatory stage includes the definition of the topic, the formulation of the main goal, the selection of the speaker of the problem abstract, the selection and formation of the opposition group, etc. The discussion stage consists of a speech by the moderator, a regulation and rules for a common technology for conducting classes are established. The final stage involves summing up the final results by the leader; making recommendations or decisions, adopting a resolution, a memorandum; definition of common results of the event that is being taken.
