SEMANTIC FIELD OF THE CONCEPT OF LIE IN SPANISH AND UKRAINIAN LANGUAGES

Abstract

The article deals with the semantic field of the concept of LIE in Spanish and Ukrainian languages, which contrasts with the concept of TRUTH. In our article the investigation is conducted at the crossing of cognitive linguistics and translation studies, which is poorly explored from this point of view. The investigated concept is universal for representatives of different language communities, but retains certain cultural features that should be taken into account in the process of translating. Given concept appears in political discourse, where lie is masked under the truth, in particular attention is paid to the means of expression and how this is done. Based on the study of British psychologist Aldert Vrij, three ways of recognizing lies: behavior, physiological reactions, and the content of what is said. We are interested in the lexical means by which the information is transmitted and how it is masked by the truth. Besides, the focus is on the attitude toward lie in the Ukrainian and Spanish society. The main difficulties in carrying out the research of the language usage of the concept of LIE consists in the fact that its expression is intended for being received by recipient as the truth, because of this it is difficult to identify the lie without knowing the context or extra-linguistic situation. Also, the neologism "post-truth" as a means of manipulating public opinion in political discourse is considered. The analysis of the concept of LIE is provided on the speech of Mariano Rajoy, the head of the Spanish government in the articles of the newspaper El diario. During the analysis of the press, it became clear that basically this concept finds expression in political discourse, where it is about such unpleasant issues for society as restricting social programs, reducing budget expenditures, etc. This research has its own perspective considering the dynamic development of political contacts in the modern world.
