Seuls les gros mots exigent réparation. À propos des dires de JFN sur le président Biya
Journal Title: Argotica - Year 2013, Vol 0, Issue 1
Abstract
The speech of Jacques Fame Ndongo (JFN) during the preelectoral year (2010) in Cameroon was highly echoed in the press. On the TV channel Africa 24, he was accused of assimilating Cameroonians to “slaves” of Biya. About that, JFN denied a part of the speech acts that have been awarded to him. This partial denial confirms nevertheless the enunciation upstream of offensive speech, consequently the intention of “face work”. Using a newspaper article and a piece of TV debate as working tools, we shall study from an interactive perspective the staging of abusive words in the medias, “face work” strategies of their offensive character and the impact they may have on the “ethos” of debate panelists. In this paper, we will refer principally to the theory of faces.
