SIŁY ZBROJNE PAŃSTW NORDYCKICH. HISTORYCZNE DOŚWIADCZENIE I WSPÓŁCZESNOŚĆ
Journal Title: Studia Humanistyczno-Społeczne - Year 2015, Vol 11, Issue
Abstract
The group of such called “Nordic countries” consists - because of cultural affinity, language and partly also ethnic - Iceland, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and because of community historical experience and the geographical location also Finland. For many decades Nordic countries have been building an unique bond in the plane of the defense. By many researchers, especially those in the area of political science, they are regarded simply as standard. Such approach on one hand is certainly true, but on the other it must be seen that co-operation is created by relatively weak players. In the right way to assess so Nordic military cooperation should be ‒ starting deliberations ‒ lean over the real potential of these countries. The problem is particularly important today, during time when regional security architecture has become very turbulent. The Author presents military experience of five Scandinavian countries as the background for showing their actual military capabilities. The general conclusion is that the military potential of three countries of the group has decreased after the end of Cold War, one country has maintained its possibilities and only one has strengthened its defence force.
