Abstract
The article focuses on the analysis of origin, development and modern state of the English theatrical terminology system. It reveals the stages of its development from the XVI century till the beginning of the XXI century. The theatrical neologisms and semantic fields are also examined. It was observed that the special microsystems had been formed to characterize some theatrical phenomenon or notions. They are expressed in the form of terminological combinations with a general words: «theatre, comedy, play». The tendency to systematize theatrical terminology has been observed. This fact had an effect on complete classification of theatrical genre and expansion of the sphere of specific terns belonging to the theatre terminology. The English theatrical terminology is rich in borrowings from other languages. The process of borrowings in the theatrical sphere illustrates a high degree of «openness» of the English theatrical terminology for borrowings from other languages. The factural material proves that the main source of terminological combinations is the English language itself: it gives initial material for creation of the new terminological specific for English theatre and theatre life. It is proved that new terminological combinations are formed by translation loans and semantic borrowings. They are considered to be a special evidence of the process of the semantic unification of the theatrical terminology. The terminological combinations are characterized by a high degree of systematization. The most of them are represented by international terms.
