STUDY OF INFLUENCES OF DANGEROUS PRODUCTS DECOMPOSITION FROM MUNICIPAL SOLID WASTE

Abstract

Purpose. To test samples of the atmospheric air along with the main chemical composition indicators for the filtration water from the filtrate discharge drain in the impact zone of the solid waste disposal plant. Methodology. As an object at which the sampling was conducted, an authorized location for the municipal waste deposit in the Kharkiv region was selected, which is a typical waste disposal site with an obvious and potential hazardous contamination. The chemical composition tests of the samples were conducted by the laboratory methods in accordance with the common regulations and measurement procedures for the corresponding indicators. Results. It was confirmed that the landfill gas and filtrate emissions are the sources of the technogenic and environmental hazards that pose a threat to the human health. The exceedance of the threshold limit value of the analyzed substances at the border of the sanitary protection area was not found. The established dimensions of the sanitary protection zone (500 m) meet the requirements of regulatory documents. Filtrate represents a highly concentrated toxic solution. The values of the measurement results of the main indicators of the filtration water significantly exceed the maximum permissible concentrations and do not meet the established requirements. Originality. Remote sensing equipment using geoinformation technology in combination with selective contact control methods is an effective tool for detecting and investigating hazards. A promising method for cleaning filtration water as an additional step is the biological method. Practical value. Data obtained from the research made by Urban and Industrial Wastewater Laboratory (USRIEP) presents a practical interest for the development and implementation of the decontamination technologies for hazardous substances that occur at and transmit from the land-fill territory. The reliable identification and constant risk control that aims to prevent emergency situations is needed. The chemical composition of decomposition products provides information on the level of environmental safety and the probability of occurrence of emergencies. References 17, tables 2.
