Tendencies of membership of Ukrainians in political parties and citizens’ party identification

Abstract
The article analyzes the main approaches to measuring the membership in political parties and party identification of citizens, substantiates the most reliable indicators of these political processes. On the basis of monitoring data of the Institute of Sociology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and other national sociological researches, as well as European social research, the main trends of changes in the level of membership of Ukrainian citizens in political parties in 2003–2017 and party identification of citizens in the same period are revealed. The comparative analysis of Ukrainian citizens’ membership in political parties and their party identification, on the one hand, and similar indicators of EU countries, on the other hand, is accomplished.
