THE BIBLE INTERTEXT IN «THE WORD ABOUT LAW AND GRACE» BY ILARION

Abstract
The article «The Bible intertext in «The Word about Law and Grace» by Ilarion» focuses on studying the influence of the Bible on the formation of the medieval preaching. The goals of the research work are bringing to light the facts that Ilarion’s preaching is influenced by the Bible, the research of their function in the text. The scientific innovation is connected with the study of Ilarion’s way of thinking while creating his preaching and the usage of the symbols from the Holy Writings, that is the exegesis, which is the remarkable feature of the medieval attitude towards the Bible Script. The adaptation of the Bible symbols and plots in the medieval literature has been studied in the works by M. Zhulinski, O. Mishanich, A. Nyamtsy, V. Sulim, M. Naenko, P. Bilous etc. The main methods of the research in the article are hermeneutic, structural, symbolical. The materials from the article can be used for further researches connected with the Bible literature aspects. The main body of the article focuses on the fact that Ilarion refers to the Old and New Testaments in order to create his own text – the genre of a preaching, which is aimed to depict modern events. The Metro-politan is eager to figure out and approve the status of Newly Christened Russ in the context of the sacral and modern history. Ilari-on quotes the Bible Script, the associations with the Bible symbols, allegories and vocabulary. In the first chapter of the preaching he contrasts the Old and the New Testaments. This chapter, in general, is theological and is focused on the interpretation of the Holy Writings. In the second chapter Ilarion praises the prince Volodimir and Yaroslav the Wise. Ilarion gives the description of them using the phrases from the Holy Writings. The Prayer is the last chapter and is the part of «The Words about Law and Grace». Cre-ating the message, Ilarion skillfully quotes various Bible Books: the Entity, the Psalter, also he quotes such prophets as Isai, Daniil, Evangilia, refers to St.Matvij, St. Luka, St.Ioan and others. Ilarion has a historical vision of the events and he seeks the comparison at the Holy Writings. Firstly, Ilarion’s work «The Word about Law and Grace» represents the influence of the Byzantine’s literature on Russ literature. Secondly, it shows that Russ literature craves to become independent. Thirdly, Ilarion depicts the Bible’s impact on the preaching genre in Kyiev Russ.
