THE CASE OF RHABDOMYOLYSIS IN TRIATHLETES RESEARCH PROJECT

Abstract
The article describes a case of a 41-year-old male,preparing for a triathlon competition, in whom rhabdomyolysis occurred. The disease developed after reducing the intensity of training due to a knee injuryand being subjected to an intense massageof the right-thigh muscle insertions. The patient felt no discomfort apart from that caused by the injury. Laboratory tests were performed due to a special programme including the athletes preparing for the competition in medical surveillance. Despite very high activity of creatine kinase andhigh concentration of myoglobin, no renal damage occurred, due to immediate treatment in hospital.
