THE CATEGORIES OF EMOTIVENESS AND EXPRESSIVENESS IN THE SYSTEM OF THE ENGLISH VERB

Journal Title: ІНОЗЕМНА ФІЛОЛОГІЯ - Year 2014, Vol 127, Issue 2

Abstract

The article focuses on the study of the correlation between the categories of emotiveness and expressiveness in the lexico-semantic system of the English verb. The mutual interdependence of the categorial emotive and expressive meanings has been determined on the basis of the analysis of synonymic sets of verbs in the reverse thesaurus. The presence of the expressive meaning in the denotation of a lexeme entails emotiveness.
