THE CONCEPT OF MAR INE INSURA NCE

Abstract
In this paper we considered the concept of marine insurance. Researched points of view of various scientists and given the author’s definition of marine insurance as a contract under which the insurer undertakes in case of occurrence provided for in the Treaty of hazards or accidents, suffered by any property interest associated with the merchant shipping (insured event) to compensate the policyholder or other person in whose favor the contract (beneficiary), incurred losses, and the policyholder undertakes to pay insurance premiums and fulfill other terms of the contract, and to make corresponding amendments to article 239 of KTM. Given the legal characteristics of the Treaty: bilateral, onerous, real.
