The effect of basic yield making components on yield level of poppy cultivars
Journal Title: Rośliny Oleiste - Oilseed Crops - Year 2011, Vol 32, Issue 2
Abstract
The effect of basic yield components on seed yield of two poppy cultivars was investigated in three-year (2005–2007) field experiment carried out in Łagiewniki Farm belonging to Plant Breeding Company “Smolice”. The cultivars significantly differed in the number of poppy heads per area unit and in the weight of seeds per one poppy head. It was also stated that the correlation between the yield and its components had a genetic basis. In Opal cultivar higher correlation between the yield and weight of seeds per one poppy head was observed. In Mieszko cultivar higher correlation was observed between the yield and the number of poppy heads per area unit. Cultivars also differed in the influence of basic components on yield. Calculation performer with path analysis method shoved that the yield of cultivar Opal was dependent to a higher degree on weight of seeds per one poppy head and the yield of cultivar Mieszko was more dependent on the number of poppy heads per area unit. Different effect of basic yield components on seed yield in the evaluated in the experiment cultivars enabled the discussion on the usefulness of cultivars with stronger influence of the number of poppy heads per area unit on the yield to cultivation technology with herbicide application. The collected data indicated that these cultivars can be less useful for technology with herbicide application in comparison to cultivars in which the seed yield is stronger determined by the weight of seeds per one poppy head.
