The effect of order of example and generalization presentation through educational films on learning and retention of the basic science concepts in the mentally retarded elementary grade1 students

Abstract
The current study was implemented with the goal of understanding the effect of order of example and generalization presentation through educational films on learning and retention of the basic science concepts in the mentally retarded elementary grade1 students. The research method is quasi-experimental with two independent groups and pretest and posttest. The statistical population includes all elementary grade1 mentally retarded students in the city of Robatkarim which 30 students (15 for experimental group and 15 for control group) were selected as research samples by multiphase cluster sampling and simple random sampling. The data collection tools were pretest and posttest. The results indicated the order of example and generalization presentation through educational films is effective on learning of basic mathematical concepts and learning through exemplification method is better than generalization method. A meaningful difference has been observed between the averages of two groups in the test for retention of concepts, thus it has become apparent that the amount of retention in generalization method was better in comparison exemplification method.
