THE EFFECT OF STABILIZATION TRAINING ON BALL STRIKING DISTANCE AND THE STRENGTH AND ENDURANCE OF THE DEEP MUSCLES IN TWO GROUPS OF FOOTBALL PLAYERS
Journal Title: Medycyna Sportowa - Year 2014, Vol 30, Issue 3
Abstract
Background. The aim of the study was an assessment of the effect of 6-week stabilization training on changes in ball striking distance and the strength and endurance of deep muscles in football players. Material and methods. The sample comprised 22 subjects training football (the experimental group with applied elements of stabilization training aged 2.2 ±4.8 years, whose mean body height and body mass were 181.2 ±4.7 cm and 77.2 kg ±5.8 kg respectively and another 22 subjects training football (control group); the mean age, body height and body mass in this group were 25.6 ±5.5 years, 181.9 ±4.1 cm 76.7 kg ±6. kg respectively. The measurements of strength and endurance of the deep muscles were taken using a stabilizer device while the ball striking distance was measured during performing a specific task. The time interval between the measurements was 6 weeks. The results obtained from the two measurements were compared. Next the results were compared between groups. Results. The study found statistically significant changes in all the studied parameters between the first and the second measurement taken in the experimental group (p<0.05). Differences were revealed between the experimental and the control group. The analysis using Wilcoxon signed rank test and Mann-Whitney U test showed a significant relationship between the elements of stabilization training and the improvement of the studied parameters. Conclusions. The football players who underwent stabilization training obtained better results of ball striking distance and the strength and endurance of the deep muscles as compared with the corresponding values obtained from the control group.
