Abstract

The article deals with the creation of a public health system in Halychyna, which was caused by several factors. Ukrainian female doctors (Sofiia Okunevska-Morachevska, Sofia Parfanovych, Volodymyra Krushelnytska and others) played an important role in this process. We analyzed the activity of companies «Lvivska poliklinika», «Narodna lichnycya» and «Vidrodzhennya», which was headed for 11 years by Parfanovych Sofia (1898-1968 gg.). She was an ideologue, a theorist, a leading figure in the anti-alcohol movement. We showed the importance of activity of female doctors regarding the formation of knowledge on the basics of hygiene and techs, prevent the spread of various diseases, especially tuberculosis, healthy lifestyle education for children and adults of Halychyna, which was a real contribution to the preservation of the gene pool of the Ukrainian people. S. Okunevska (1865-1926 gg.) entered the history of domestic medicine as the first female doctor in Halychyna; in 1895 she graduated from the Medical Faculty of the University of Zurich (Switzerland); she was the first female physician in the Austro-Hungarian Empire and the first woman in western Ukraine, who gained university education. Methodological basis of the research consists of the leading positions of the theory of scientific knowledge, systemstructural and cultural approach. The author applied anthroposophic approach. Thus, the analysis of S. Okunevska’s and S.Parfanovych’s vital activity in the Ukrainian section shows that the work of local physicians has become a prerequisite for the establishment of Ukrainian social health care system which has been an alternative to the public one. Charitable, selfless, free labor of Ukrainian female doctors provided medical care to the habitants of Halychyna in late XIX – early XX centuries.
