The Ghettoization Policy of the Roma Community in Italy – A Case Study in the Dehumanization of Safety
Journal Title: Chorzowskie Studia Polityczne - Year 2016, Vol 11, Issue
Abstract
This article is an analysis of the Italian policy towards the Roma and Sinti. The policy of spatial isolation of the Roma in the so-called “campi nomadi” (the camps for groups of migratory policy) which was used since 80’s of 20th century, has led to the institutionalization of the ghettoization model. Authorities both at national and local levels justify discriminatory activities of the Roma, as part of the internal security of Italy. The emphasis on the cultural differences between the majority population and the Roma and Sinti minority in Italy leads to obvious discrimination against the minority.
