THE IMPORTANCE OF RESEARCH ON SELECTED PSYCHOLOGICAL ASPECTS OF PROCREATION

Abstract
Abstract: Pregnancy is a key period for the child and his or her parents as, on the one hand, its course influences the child’s further development, and, on the other hand, it is a period of preparation for taking on new roles – the role of mother and the role of father. Thus pregnancy can be analyzed from two developmental perspectives: 1) the phase of prenatal development together with the factors influencing this phase and its consequences, and 2) the adulthood phase, when developmental tasks assigned to early and mid-adulthood are fulfilled by performing the procreative function. These two perspectives are taken into consideration in the article. The first perspective is represented by deliberations on the importance of the prenatal period for further development. This part centers on the importance of the pregnancy course - including the stress experienced by the mother and the infant's condition expressed as body weight - for the development of individual differences. The other perspective is used in deliberations on the prenatal bond with the child, the factors that influence this bond and its importance in the case of postnatal interactions with the child, and in the case of reproductive problems.
