THE INFLUENCE OF TRIBOTESTER AND FRICTION PROCESS PARAMETERS ON WEAR SCATTER

Journal Title: Tribologia - Year 2011, Vol 236, Issue 2

Abstract

Wear values obtained from different tribological experiments for the same materials and process parameters can vary significantly. The influence of friction process parameters on reproducibility and comparability of wear is still unclear. In this article, the results of research on the influence identification of process parameters, testers and materials on wear scatter are presented. The conducted experiments included three different contact materials and changes in the following parameters: humidity, load, and sliding velocity. The tests were conducted on three tribotesters. The Taguchi method was used for the design of the experiment in order to identify parameter values that enable one to minimise the wear scatter. The research results analysis proved the significant influence of materials on scatter and the low importance of tribotester.
