Abstract

The article analyzes the peculiarities of the creative writing of an outstanding German writer Cornelia Funke, the author of more than forty works for children and young people, the laureate of the number of prestigious awards. The specific character of Cornelia Funke’s works is primarily associated with her experience as a social worker. The educational impact on the young reader, the disclosure of his spiritual potential are the main motives of Cornelia Funke’s creativity. This goal is successfully achieved in her famous work “Inkheart”. The peculiarities of the work were identified by analyzing it. Of particular interest is the intertextual aspect of the work: each new chapter of the book begins with a quotation of famous authors’ works, among them are Michael Ende, Oscar Wilde, Kipling. In this way, the emotional and aesthetic effect was increased by author, relationships between adjacent and remote elements were established and text coherence was achieved. The book takes place in the false real world these days, however, the characters are not transferred to the fantasy world, this underlines the writer’s idea that amazing adventures and magic are possible in the real world. In addition, the author brings into the work historical facts and events, such as from the history of typography, which intensifies the truthiness of the story. Miracles are explained as the highest moral values for a person: such as family relationships, feeling of love, friendship. This is a manifestation of the nontrivial function of the literary fairy tales genre, in the socialization of the younger generation, in the upbringing of sociocultural values and norms.
