The model of a small child’s music education according to Katalin Forrai

Abstract
The article discusses problems of importance and weight of a pre-school child’s music education with reference to the syllabus by Katalin Forrai, a Hungarian pedagogue and continuator of Kodály’s ideas. In the greatest publication of hers – written in the 1970s – [i]Ének az óvodába[/i]n ([i]Music in a pre-school[/i]), the author expresses a lot of thoughts still relevant today, which could become a motto for the contemporary pre-school education teachers. What is really worth noticing is the way K. Forrai treats children’s musical folklore – as the basis for the music teaching syllabus for pre-schools, as well as her attitude to singing without instrumental accompaniment. In the era of musical plays involving singing to the poor-quality accompaniment of a keyboard, recorded on CDs, a return to natural, ‘pure’ form of singing seems important and necessary. This article answers the question whether (at all) and how it is possible today.
