THE MODELLING OF THE THESAURUS OF UKRAINIAN BUILDING TERMINOLOGY

Abstract
The article deals with different approaches to the definition of the notion «term». The author examines the main features and functions of a term. The demands for its meaning and form are made. It is proved that in modern linguistics there is no single definition of a term. It is shown that the particular interest is aroused by terminologies which actively develop and always produce a considerable material for terminological investigation that’s why they are in need of regulating and standardization. It is affirmed that the thesaurus of building industry is just the very totality of units. The method of thesaurus modelling as a way of cognition and systematization of the language is analysed on the example of the thesaurus of building terminology. The semantic space of building terms is represented as a complex hierarchical structure, the elements of which are connected with hypero-hyponymous, synonymous and antonymous relations. The thesaurus model of Ukrainian building vocabulary is shown as a scheme with the top dividing into six basic thematic groups (term-fields).
