THE NEED OF TRANSFORMATION OF THE MOBILE OPERATORS OF THE REPUBLIC OF ARMENIA

Journal Title: INTERNATIONAL ACADEMY JOURNAL "Web of Scholar" - Year 2018, Vol 3, Issue 4

Abstract

The mobile operators have come across some obstacles in their path of development and prosperity as the development of internet has lead to cannibalization of the revenue from voice services. At the same time, the revenue from internet services is not enough to compensate the decline in voice revenue. Among the subscribers there is a trend of switching from communicating via voice services of the mobile operator to communicating via internet, which is cheaper in most of the cases. The widespread Wi-Fi connectivity is also negatively affecting the business of mobile operators. To overcome the obstacles and the threat of becoming “dumb pipes” for OTT providers, the mobile operators need to transform from classical telecom operators into IT companies that would also provide some IT services. They need to use cutting-edge tools and technology for cost-saving purposes. Also, it is possible to form a unified mobile network to achieve effectivity.
