The peculiarities of Merziie Khalitova’s creativity process: vocal triptych for voice and piano to the poetry by Ivan Franko

Abstract

Merziie Khalitova is one of the most famous composers in Ukraine, who belongs to the cohort of Crimean Tatar cultural ¿ gures. The work of the artist, an excellent example of which is the vocal triptych to the poems by Ivan Franko, is analyzed in the article. On October 13–14, 2014 one was able to get acquainted with the original creativity of M. Khalitova, in which the musical traditions of East and West in Franko’s land are harmoniously combined. This meeting has its own history related to the events in Crimea and Eastern Ukraine. Back in 2012, Merziie Khalitova responded to the suggestion of the chairman of the Drohobych organization of the National Union of Composers of Ukraine, musicologist V. Hrabovskyi and created three romances on the poetry by Ivan Franko. In 2013 a collection «M. Khalitova. The Vocal Triptych on the poetry by Ivan Franko» was published. The purpose of the research is to reveal the creative personality of the modern Ukrainian composer Merziie Khalitova, to analyze her vocal triptych to I. Franko’s poems as well as concert author’s programs in Franko’s land. The composer was born in Yangiyul of Tashkent region (Uzbekistan) where her parents have been deported. She studied at the Tashkent State Musical College after S. Hamza, later in the Tashkent State Conservatory after Mukhtar Ashra¿ . To Crimea Merziie Khalitova returned with her parents in 1993: she taught the composition at the Simferopol Music College after P. Tchaikovskyi; worked as a musical editor of the Crimean Tatar editorial board TRK «Crimea». Today she is teaching at the Crimean Engineering and Pedagogical University at the Department of Folk-Performing Arts. The national spirit is felt in almost every piece of music during the author’s concerts by M. Khalitova in Drohobych and Stryi in October 2014. The works by M. Khalitova reÀ ect her inner world and are imbued with the spirit of their native people and the Crimean land.
