THE PECULIARITIES OF THE ARTISTIC INTERPRETATION OF YURII MELNYCHENKO CHARACTER IN THE POEM «THE PRINCE OF SARMATIIA» BY M. CHERNIAVSKYI

Abstract
The theme of our study is the peculiarities of the artistic interpretation of Yurii Melnychenko character in the poem «The Prince of Sarmatiia» by Cherniavskyi. The subject of the study is the means of character creation of Khmelnyhenko image. M. Yevshan car-ried out the analysis of the poem «The Prince of Sarmatiia». The critic appraised this work and drew attention to the strengthening of psychologism in it. M. Yevshan’s observations relate to the work as a whole and do not reveal the basic principles of the character creation. The aim of our study is to highlight Cherniavskyi’s stylistic dominants in the character of Yurii Khmelnytskyi. The results of the research can be used in the study of the history of Ukrainian literature of the late XIX – the first decades of the twentieth century, the Literature of the native land. In the poem «The Prince of Sarmatiia» (1896) M. Cherniavsky tried to find out the cause of the failed reign of the great Bohdan’s descendant for a long time (for about eight years). The writer recreated the fate of the «little man», who due to the will of circumstances and personal ambitions found himself in this maelstrom of political manipulations. Using the character’s monologues, sleep techniques, contrast, splitting, the symbols of the night and the garden M. Cherniavskyi managed to show the tragedy of the man, to investigate the causes of his mental disharmony.
