Abstract

The article reveals peculiarities of the perception of lexemes family, people, nation, language by the students of non-philological higher education establishment on the modern stage of language development. The material represented is based on the results of associative experiment conducted in Zhytomyr National Agroecological University with the participation of 100 students. The authors of the article suggest their own vision of mental and gender aspects of interpreting by young people such words-stimuli as family, people, nation, language. The research proves that the perception of such lexemes as family, people, nation, language by the students of non-philological higher education establishment has the gender as well as cultural and mental differences related to the environmental influence and general cultural level of the young people development. The research also gives an opportunity to observe the patriotic attitude of modern Ukrainian youth. In authors’ judgment, the word associations nominate concepts that are constituents of national consciousness and mentality of the participants involved in the experiment (unity, brotherhood, pride, invincibility, strength, greatness, intelligence, passionate, eternal, unrestrained, common interests, customs and territory, courage, patriotism). These words make it possible to identify the semantic dominants in the perception of lexical units-incentives, and thus define the semantic concepts accents, denoted with lexical units-incentives. The lexical units (family, mother, relatives, procreation, future, Ukraine, Ukrainian, ancestors, descendants, generation, welfare, culture, people, community, people, nation, song, soul) are important for the students and outline the specific features and gender peculiarities of perceiving the lexical units-incentives by the student youth at the present stage in the development of the Ukrainian language and Ukrainian society.
