THE ROLE OF METHODOLOGY IN THE PROCESS OF SCIENCE ADVANCEMENT

Abstract
The article describes main stages of growth of science as social institution, the changes in scientific view of the world, models of society and its structure, philosophical foundations and methodological principles of researches. The understanding of reality, the essence of science problems and methods of their solution, often depends on scientist’s views and adequacy of methodology. Science advancement is an integral part of scientific knowledge methodology. The aim of the article is consideration offeatures of science and methodology development in the classical, non-classical, post-non-classical periods and determination of the role of methodology. The author characterizes the premise of science advancement and main features of the classical, non-classical, postnon-classical science. The attention is focused on changes in scientific thinking, comprehension of organization’s matter, principles and methods of cognitive process during definite historical stages of development of science. The main views of science development, the driving forces of this process and new approaches to the methodology of science research are analyzed. The methodological principles of the work are historic-genetic, paradigm approaches to reviewing the main stages of science and methodology development; the methods of analysis, synthesis and generalization for determination of the role of methodology in the process of science advancement. Conclusion. Thus, modern methodology of system researches is not holistic and monolithic. In its context there are different conceptions and approaches which are developing and supporting each other. Methodology has an integration role among differential science fields and affects the process of science advancement at science paradigm’s level as well as at practical level in the matter of choosing appropriate research methods and techniques. System methodology, based on system thinking and interactive modelling, accumulated achievements of the classical, non-classical, post-non-classical science, is being formed nowadays.
