THE ROLE OF THE NEWSPAPER DISCOURSE ON THE RELIGIOUS ISSUES IN THE PROCESSES OF THE STATE-BUILDING IN UKRAINE (BASED ON THE PUBLICATIONS OF THE WESTERN UKRAINIAN REGIONAL PRESS)

Abstract
The article is devoted to the research of the role of the discourse on religious issues of the Western Ukrainian regional press in the processes of national revival and state-building in Ukraine during the period of gaining and asserting its independence. It was established that the specific character of the state-building context of the discourse was determined by the regional features of the religious situation and found its expression in several areas. Firstly, journalistic materials about the past and modern national church structures, which were traditionally associated with Ukrainian nation-building, have formed the space of an independent ideological state alternative. Secondly, the ideological, ethical and educational directions of the publications have strengthened the ideological basis for the formation of civil society. Thirdly, publications on the religious topic have been actively exploited by various political forces in the struggle for electoral sympathies. Consequently, such publications, acting as a means of political struggle, directly influenced the formation of the political system of the Ukrainian state.
