THE ROLE OF THE REGIONAL PERIODICAL PRESS IN THE ILLUSTRATION ACTIVITY OF THE KHARITONENKO’S FAMILY (ON MATERIALS OF 1990–2000 AGES)

Abstract

In the late 80’s and early 90-ies of XX century in connection with the momentous changes in all spheres of social and cultural life of Ukraine is starting to revive interest in the role and activities of the merchants as a class. In Soviet times, the merchants were mentioned most often with a negative shade. Оnly after Ukraine gained independence, it became possible to start a new stage in the study of national and regional merchants. The role and activities of the Kharitonenko’s dynasty of sugar entrepreneurs requires a comprehensive study.Having overcome the way from the peasants of the Niznya Sirivitka, Sumy district, Kharkov province, to the very wealthy and influential family of Kharitonenko, through hard work have transformed the provincial city of Sumy on the lead centre of the sugar-refinado industry of Kharkiv region. That is why the topic on the pages of the Sumy regional press is of particular relevance in the context of socioeconomic processes that took place in the Russian Empire in the late XIX early XX century. The crisis of the feudal system, brisk development of capitalist relations, defining the role and place of regional merchants in complex historical processes is one of the issues that need consideration.Scientific interest are also problems associated with entrepreneurship and family business succession, the problems of everyday life and family relations. On the pages of the regional press had the opportunity to print historical materials historians and collectors. You receive a number of scientific articles and promotional nature. Actively articles in periodicals: Newspapers, magazines, weeklies, scientific notes and parts of literary anthologies and collections devoted to the family Kharitonenko, starting to come out since 1990. It is through the press historians got a platform for the dissemination of historical information they collected over the years bit by bit.
