The teacher through the eyes of the students: image reconstruction using the method of unfinished sentences

Abstract

In modern conditions the student’s ability to produce knowledge independently acquires special importance; the teacher’s task is to build partnership relations with the student. Their dialogue provides for articulation of mutual expectations. In this context, it is important to analyze students’ perceptions of the teacher’s personality. The purpose of the article is to reconstruct the image of the teacher through the verbal characteristics of the students, obtained with the method of unfinished sentences, to identify the tendencies of its transformation. As a result the authors point: the students’ expectations regarding teachers, assumptions about pedagogical interaction often not justified. This is represented in the predominantly negative connotation of the statements of senior students. Strengthening the reflective component at all levels of the organization of the educational process will contribute to its greater effectiveness and the ability of the higher education system as a whole.
