THE UP-TO-DATE STATE AND THE PROSPECTS OF THE DEVELOPMENT OF UKRAINIAN FIELD OF HIGHER EDUCATION

Abstract

Purpose. To elucidate the general and important theoretical substantiation, which form the basis of the paradigm of the development of western universities, and to define the conceptual and methodological approach to the formulation and solution of the urgent problems of the development of the national self-government. Methodology. Being now part of the world educational space, Ukrainian field of higher education has undergone market reform. Commercialization is a modern world tendency of higher education development. Western scientists are doubtful of increasing the level of universities commercialization as they consider it a threat to classical academic values. Results. A compromise between commerce and academic values has been found in the pragmatism philosophy, which is the basis of the paradigm of the development of Western universities. Scientists in the post-Soviet space do not see commercialization as a threat to higher education. The faults of Ukrainian higher education are not taken as systemic drawbacks that require the renewal of the development paradigm. Practical value. The pragmatic paradigm of development implies the orientation of Western universities to individual success. The doctrine of the development of Ukrainian field of higher education is oriented to the realization of national interests. Transfer to the pragmatic paradigm of development will enable Ukrainian higher school to use rationally the limited resources in the interests of the society.
