THE WASTE MANAGEMENT AS A FIRST STEP TOWARDS THE CIRCULAR ECONOMY. THE CASE OF ROMANIA

Abstract
After a brief presentation of the concept of circular economy accenting the need for its awareness, there are presented data regarding the increase of the waste amount generated as result of the technological advances and the increase of population welfare. The European Commission's position on the necessity to move from the linear to the circular economy and the objectives it proposes in this aim for Europe are also presented. The encouraging results of some European countries that have started to implemented the circular economy principles are highlighted. Finally, it is presented the Romanian status in adopting the measures required to implement the circular economy concepts, underlining the necessary solutions to intensify the municipal waste collection, recycling and reuse.
