THERMAL PROBLEMS IN THE ROLLING ELEMENTS JOINING

Journal Title: Tribologia - Year 2011, Vol 240, Issue 6

Abstract

A model of the coupling mechanism for two rolling elements was presented in the paper. Apart from slips related to geometry, elasticity and plastic deformation in the area of the actual contact of the two bodies, the mechanism includes also a slip that is generated by temperature differences within the contact area of the rolling elements and by the resulting variation in the coefficients of friction. Other factors taken into account are inertia forces. These are related not only to the above mentioned tangential deformations but also to radial deformations which in turn are responsible for additional centrifugal and circumferential (Coriolis) accelerations.
