Thermodynamics and Performance Analysis of a Diesel Engine with the Help of a Computer
Journal Title: Gazi Üniversitesi Fen Bilimleri Dergisi Part C: Tasarım ve Teknoloji - Year 2013, Vol 1, Issue 3
Abstract
In this study, a simulation was developed in MATLAB program for a single cylinder, normally aspirated, direct injection diesel engine cycle. As a result of simulation engine performance curves have been obtained at full load, range of one degree crank angle, at different engine speeds (1000–4000 d/d), at different compression ratios (16,20,24) and in different air excess coefficients (1.3,1.5,1.7). It was determined that in-cylinder pressure and heat release increased with the increase ofcompression ratio at 1.5 excess air coefficient. It was also seen that in-cylinder pressure and heat release decreased with the increase of excess air coefficient when compression ratio was held constant at 20. It was concluded that compression ratio and excess air coefficient affected combustion process and engine performance. As a result, engine performance improved with the increase of compression ratio while decreasing with the increase of excess air coefficient.
