TRACING DİYARBAKIR IN THE MASTERPIECES OF CAHİT SITKI TARANCI

Abstract

Cahit Sıtkı Tarancı who is actually from Diyarbakır and lived between 1910-1956, is one of the artists who has an idiosyncratic style with his poems, stories and letters in Turkish literature. Although he lived in a period when many views about art were dominant, the artist who laid the base of unshakable bond between art and himself, uses a language which is simple and unique in his poems, stories and letters. Besides his distant-stance against death; his loyalty to life and the value he shows to human and love, reflects artist's own line. Tarancı, who founds a unique imagination world, is not a copyist even though he is affected by French literature. He draws his own way in terms of content and shape and leads some artists in this direction. Tarancı, who is far from the idea of making art an instrument to any kind of opinion, pays regard (to) aesthetics in his masterpieces. The reflection of the environment lived in to life as much as to artists' masterpieces is inevitable. Tarancı, who was born and took his first education in Diyarbakır and who belongs to a rooted family, spent a part of his life in his last days again in this city. In this research, in Cahit Sıtkı Tarancı's masterpieces, tangible trails of Diyarbakır will be scanned. Answer for questions such as ‘How much did Diyarbakır affect the life and masterpieces of the famous artist?’, ‘How and in which masterpieces of his did the findings of this idea take place?’ will be searched and a place-centered connection between the city and the artist will be tried to be established.
