TRAINING OF FUTURE PRIMARY SCHOOL TEACHERS IN THE AREA OF LEXICAL SEMANTICS

Abstract

The search for effective ways of learning the lexical meaning of the word by students of junior classes is one of the urgent problems of the modern methods of language teaching. Its solution is impossible without taking into account the main trends which determine the development of lexis as a science and its use in linguodidactic training of future elementary school teachers. Therefore, we consider the chosen topic as currently important. The purpose of this article is to consider the possibility of teachers’ linguodidactic training in using expressions lexis consistency in language teaching methods in elementary schools based on the modern concepts of lexical semantics. While training students - the future teachers of primary classes, we use the linguistic concept of the lexical-semantic system of language as a theoretical framework that allows us to fully consider the most important regularities inherent to semantic relations and interrelations of words. We analyze the inner side of the word as a sum of elements of value, sems (semantic components). Thus, forming the students' understanding of the semantics of words, we rely on traditions of the component-targeted approach. Therefore, it becomes an urgent task to teach them methods of component analysis of the meaning, allowing the establishment of the semantic structure of the word. We draw students’ attention to these methods: the singling out of semantic components based on reference to subjects and phenomena of extralinguistic reality; comparison of the initial meaning of an ambiguous word alongside with its figurative meaning; selection of sems by comparing the meaning of the word with definitions of words of the same lexical-semantic paradigm; determination of the component composition of the meaning in the context. We also demonstrate the future teachers that the notion of combinatorial lexical meaning is applicable during semantization of words in elementary school. So, the seme analysis tables help to reveal the semantics of words, which presupposes implementation of the elementary component analysis of the lexical meaning by the pupils. The perspectives of further research are seen in students’ acquaintance with semantic word grouping. Thematic and lexico-semantic groupings allow a teacher to organize lexical material accoding to the theme and situation-targeted principle which corresponds the communicative aim of teaching languages to the full.
